Eileen Cheah Popular television host and deejay Marcus Chin has been ordered by the court to pay his wife, former Taiwanese singer Murong Ying, $4,000 a month. They have been in the Family Court tussling over maintenance money since last year. Chin's marital issues had hit the headlines in 2009 when he began dating his personal assistant Eileen Cheah, 25.
She bore him a daughter about a year ago
According to previous reports in The New Paper, Chin's estranged wife, Murong Ying, told the court he had promised her $5,000 in maintenance when he walked out on her in 2008.
But he then backed out of the agreement and reduced the amount to $1,000.
After a four-day hearing, District Judge Brenda Tan ordered Chin to pay his wife $4,000 a month, as well as $7,000 in costs asked for by Ying's lawyer Sng Kheng Huat, reported the Straits Times.
In making her decision, Judge Tan noted Ying's devotion to her husband, and that at 55, Ying's income is unlikely to be substantial.
Taiwan-born Ying, whose real name is Yan Wen Lin, became a Singapore citizen and was a housewife for the past 10 years before their marriage crumbled.
According to the Straits Times, Judge Tan also noted that his reduction in income was 'self-inflicted', after Chin told the court he had stopped performing in getai shows during the Seventh month.
The freelance radio and television performer now earns $9,000 a month, but says he used to earn up to six months of his annual income from his getai performances.
